Polina's way

In 2017, Natalia gave birth to a daughter, Polinka. She was born prematurely, at 32–33 weeks of pregnancy, weighing 2,100 grams and measuring 45 centimeters. Despite the early birth, the girl immediately cried out — she scored 7 points on the Apgar scale. The next day, Polina was transferred to the Kyiv Regional Children's Hospital, where her mother spent three long weeks with her.

After discharge, the family enjoyed every moment with her daughter. “These were the four happiest months of our lives — we rejoiced at every smile, every new movement and sound,” recalls Natalia.

But already at five months, doctors noticed a developmental delay. From that moment, the difficult path of fighting for the child's health began. The final diagnosis was made at the age of 1 year and 10 months — cerebral palsy, spastic diplegia. “These three letters changed everything — our life was divided into “before” and “after”,” the mother shares.

Since then, rehabilitation has become an integral part of the family’s life. They are constantly looking for opportunities for the child’s activities and development. “Even the war didn’t stop us — we want to give Polinka a chance for a full life,” says Natalia.

Polinka is growing up to be a very bright, smiling, and open girl. She tries every day and takes small but important steps forward. Now the girl desperately needs regular rehabilitation so as not to lose the progress she has made and to continue her development. It is she who will help Polinka one day take her first independent steps.
