In 2017, after 15 years of failed attempts at pregnancy, the Lapin family welcomed their son Sasha. Born at 32 weeks, Sasha faced premature birth complications, including brain damage from severe hypoxemia and ischemia. Sasha could not breathe independently; he was taken into the NICU and put on a ventilator for two weeks.

One month later, Sasha's condition stabilized. Still, it turned out that his retinopathy, an eye disease affecting premature babies, was progressing, and there was a risk of retinal detachment that could cause blindness. So, Sasha had to undergo eye surgery. After the surgery, while recovering from anaesthesia, he began to have seizures and could not breathe independently, so he was again taken to the ICU for one month. Finally, three months after the birth, baby Sasha was discharged from the hospital.

Later, it became clear that baby Sasha was not developing as expected. At present, four y.o. Sasha cannot hold his head up; he cannot sit on his own, walk or talk. The boy was diagnosed with spastic tetraparesis, global developmental delay and partial atrophy of the optic nerve.

Despite his diagnosis, there is a chance to improve Sasha's quality of life. Regular physical therapy treatments are essential; Sasha has already attended 25 rehabilitation courses in various centres. His parents also help Sasha exercise at home. The therapy has helped the boy. His spasticity decreased, the muscle stiffness in his neck, legs, and arms decreased, his head control improved, and his arms and back became stronger. Sasha has become more emotionally responsive and curious; he started making eye contact. The boy also showed interest in speech therapy classes.

The boy's parents do all they can to help their child. Still, they cannot afford the costly regular therapy courses. Please, consider supporting this little boy as our government, sadly, do not provide sufficient support for children with disabilities leaving parents at the mercy of charities. Your donation will help Sasha live a healthier life with less pain.
