UPD: unfortunately, Yanis died. The disease was stronger. The UBB team brings our sincere words of condolences to the boy’s family and thanks to everyone who supported Yanis.

Yanis Nalyvaiko. Late child. All his childhood, he was too weak and often sick. When the boy began his studying at school, he got a little stronger and began to dream about football. At the age of 12, he was registered in the football section, but he studied there during only 6 months. His mom raised two sons alone, so it was not possible to pay for Yanis’s trainings. When the boy was 13, he fell ill: frequent headaches, nausea and vomiting made him restless.

They ran to all the doctors, but the boy got worse and worse. Only when they were transferred to another hospital, to the neurological department, the doctor prescribed an MRI. Thus, in December 2017, Yanis was given a terrible diagnosis – a brain tumour, ..surgeries, chemotherapies, rays... Yanis still knows only one route: home – hospital, hospital – home. All the child's dreams remain unfulfilled. He dreams of a tablet. He dreams to visit Paris. Throughout his life, Yanis has never been to the sea. Never. However, he really hopes that someday he will still have chance to visit the sea.

He wants to recover, he wants to be like his peers, he still wants to play football and take up photography. Until then, there is long and expensive treatment. In December last year, Yanis had a control CT that showed an excellent result of the treatment. The boy proceeded with the therapy, and everything was going smoothly. However, in January, there was the next examination, which now showed the disease progression! The documents of Yanis were sent to Moscow, to Professor Zheludkova, who… did not see any progression, but inclined to the following: the images show postradiation pseudoprogression. In order to understand what was in fact going on, she assigned a PET-CT with methionine contrast agent, which is not carried out in Ukraine. Nevertheless, this examination did not clear the air either. Yanis continued the treatment, after which, on the next examination, everybody understood that the treatment did help and the dynamics was good!

Yanis was tolerating treatment easily, much to everyone’s delight! However, this delight has one very difficult circumstance: the treatment guidelines include Avastin – a very expensive preparation. A 500 mg vial costs UAH 50,000. Two vials are needed for a monthly course. The treatment is for a year. Two cycles are already gone through. Now, in order to extend the treatment, the amount of UAH 100,000 a month is needed. And there are 10 months ahead! The mother raises a son by herself, and she is not able to pay such treatment expenses.

We ask all unidifferent people to help Yanis kill a disease and get back to a normal happy life. This small family will not cope without your help.

At UBB we collect 902 106 UAH.
