Granny’s hands would be able to create

Throughout the year the NGO "Lviv Municipal Community of Disabled People" tries to create opportunities for single low-income retired disabled people to realize themselves by engaging them in mutual work like embroidery andworkmanship. Currently we plan to purchase a computerized embroidery machine BROTHER INNOV-V5 that would help retired or disabled people to immerse into the world of colorful embroidery ornaments and make their life colorful. And now this creative dream needs our support to become real.

The author of this idea - Mrs. Olga Kharchenko- is a single disabled senior from Lviv who has disability of the 2nd group from industrial injury. Olga is the head of the NGO "Lviv Municipal Community of Disabled People", and the prizewinner of the 6th All-Ukrainian Festival of Creativity for disabled people "On the wings of hope." It all started with an incident in her life as Mrs. Kharchenko describes. Her friend Volodya Andruschyshyn got disability in army and lost his faith in life. Olga didn't let her friend down, and she taught him the art of embroidery. After some time Volodya created his first work – an embroidered shirt, made on his own. While sewing the shirt Olga inspired herself and motivated Volodya for the further work. Embroidery, knitting, and fashion design became her only relief in her life of the disabled person, and she is eager now to inspire other single retired disabled people.

As most of the NGO art projects, "Support the Dream" does not get any financial support from the Ukrainian government. As for now this project badly needs money to purchase the computerized embroidery machine for the common creative activities.

With this project lonely retired disabled people with moderate means who are abandoned by society would get new opportunities in the process of creating amazing embroidered postcards. They will get a chance to realize their creativity potential and will fulfill their life.

This project was canceled, the amount collected is 25 000 UAH. The funds were disposed of in accordance with the Rules, Principles, and Procedures of the Ukrainian Philanthropic Marketplace (UBB) International Charitable Fund and the decisions of the Project Donors.
