Point of Life. Mission 2

The "Point of life. Mission 2 "- is to help in the treatment of not one but hundreds of children with blood diseases in Ukraine. Often, parents of children who need a bone marrow transplantation have to seek donors overseas and pay huge money for the search while they need money for the treatment itself! Our Foundation raises money to lauch bone marrow donor registry which so far has not been created in Ukraine.

Calls for assistance to such children are heard across the country on television and radio, newspapers and magazines, the Internet, they catch eyes on the lightboards. More than 2,500 children in Ukraine are suffering from blood cancer. Treatment of these diseases is one of the most expensive per one child and costs in average 200 thousand hryvnia. When a child can be saved only with a bone marrow transplantation, but no family members suits as a donor, parents are forced to look for a huge amount (from 150 000 to 350 000 euros!) for the treatment and the search of donors abroad.

Every year about 2 million euros from the families and benefactors go to foreign clinics. Why is this not being done in Ukraine? Because we, unlike all the other European countries, there is no domestic bone marrow donor registry, where clinics can seek donors for transplantations. But we can create it in Ukraine, with your help, based in "OHMATDET" hospital and network it to international registries.

In the first phase of the project "The point of life," we have already equipped the modern laboratory at the Center for Children's Hematology in "OHMATDET" which will take analyzes and accurately pick up a child unrelated donor bone marrow. The second stage - the need to begin to shape the register of donors! The actual needs of the project: the acquisition of centrifuge «EPPENDORF» for the preparation and analysis of donor material to enter the data into the registry. The cost of the centrifuge is UAH 77 500. "Krona" Foundation can take over the payment of half that amount, then there is still a need to collect UAH 38,000.

We strive to help Ukrainian children receive treatment at home! Every minute saved, every hryvnia saved increase the chance of the sick child to survive!
