It's not for long, I'll soon be walking! 2
Andrii Gurtovyi has always dreamt of becoming a football player, he was growing a strong, athletic, agile and cheerful child. He was enduring, skillful, sturdy and confidently approached his goal. However, his life suddenly changed due to an accident. When he was 6.5 and 7 years old he got a severe injury, dislocation fracture of cervical spine C1-C3. Doctor gave no chances for life. Andrii underwent five complex spine surgeries. He has been connected to ALV for a long time. At the moment Andrii can’t stand or walk independently, he moves in a wheel chair.
The last two surgeries that took place in February and March 2018 were successful and the recovery period has started since then. Andrii reached notable success thanks to his sturdiness and efforts. Positive dynamics is observed thanks to constant exercises. His body got stronger, the boy can independently sit, eat, his legs and arms got stronger and more flexible, his breathing improved and this is the most important thing. Specialists give all chances for recovery with the help of the correct rehabilitation. However, it will still take much strength, patience and self-help. Constant trainings, rehabilitation courses and especially support of people – this is something that gives hope and strength to continue the struggle!
The next course is set at Ukrainian Research Institute of Prosthetics, Prosthesis and Rehabilitation, the cost of four months of rehabilitation is 61,200 UAH. The family is financially exhausted and does not have such money. Andrii’s mother is an incapable person and he has no father. Andrei wants to live a full life again, go to school and play football above all things. He dreams of becoming a policeman. When children ask their parents why such a big boy is in the stroller, Andrei immediately answers: "This is not for long, I will walk soon!".
Please, support Andrei!
