Prosthetics in 3-4 quarter of 2024

In Q3-Q4 2024, bionic prostheses were provided by the Prostheses for the Unbroken project on the Dobro.ua platform to defenders and civilians who lost their limbs as a result of various injuries, including

  • Volodymyr Ovsianikov - bionic prosthetic arm. Volodymyr Ovsyannikov is 47 years old. He is from the small village of Andriivka in the Dnipro region. When the full-scale war began, he decided to join the Armed Forces, but Volodymyr was not accepted - he was rejected for health reasons. But he did not give up and continued to pound the doorsteps of military enlistment offices. In March, he got his way and joined the army. Since he was an avid hunter in civilian life and was good at tracking, he became a scout in the Armed Forces. He fought in Kherson and Donetsk regions. Shrapnel cut almost his entire body. He lost his right hand, part of his left fingers and an eye. The soldier's right leg was also severely injured. There was a high risk of amputation. Volodymyr was fitted with a modern bionic arm thanks to donations from Ukrainians through the dobro.ua charity platform as part of the Prostheses for the Unstoppable project. ‘.   • Maksym Pavlenko is a bionic prosthetic arm. He is 26 years old and comes from the Zhytomyr region. Before the Great War, he was a construction worker. In July 2023, he joined the 58th Motorised Infantry Brigade. He held the position of a scout. He held the defence in the Donetsk direction. Maksym was wounded on 15 February 2024. ‘We had an assault. Massive shelling began. A mine exploded next to me, and a fragment hit my arm.’ Maksym was fitted with a modern bionic arm thanks to donations from Ukrainians through the dobro.ua charity platform as part of the Prostheses for the Unstoppable project. ‘.   • Andrushko Mykhailo - bionic prosthetic thumb. Mykhailo Andrushko, a 42-year-old defender from Ivano-Frankivsk region. Before the Great War, he used to make furniture. In February 2023, he replaced the drill with an assault rifle and joined the 117th Separate Heavy Mechanised Brigade as a signalman. He served in the Donetsk direction. In January 2024, during an enemy shelling, he sustained a severe shrapnel wound to his right arm. Surgeons tried to save the limb, but it had to be amputated. When the treatment was over, the defender was sent to the UNBROKEN Rehabilitation Centre for prosthetics. Based on the defender's needs, he was fitted with a mechanical elbow and a bionic hand. Now Mykhailo is at home, getting used to his artificial limb and plans to spend as much time as possible with his wife and children. ‘. The total cost of the prosthetics is UAH 515,975.
  • Vasyl Marchyshyn is wearing a bionic prosthetic arm. Vasyl Marchyshyn, 39, is from Stryi, Lviv region. He went to war back in March 2022 - voluntarily. He was an assault rifleman with the 63rd separate mechanised brigade. He was wounded in early August 2022 during an enemy assault - a tank shell landed 5 metres from him. The right side of his body was most affected: his pelvis and arm. As a result of his severe injury, doctors had to amputate his right arm at the level of the forearm. At the Centre for Orthotics and Prosthetics, Vasyl received a highly technical myoelectric prosthetic arm and has now returned to the front. He is now a driver and continues to defend our country in Donetsk region. ‘. The total cost of prosthetics is UAH 527 157.
  • Victoria Khemych - bionic leg prosthesis. Victoria is from Lviv and is 26 years old. Last year, she was hit by a bus on a pedestrian crossing and lost her leg. She was treated for six months at the First Medical Association of Lviv, underwent 4 surgeries and then underwent rehabilitation on the spot and received a prosthesis at the NESLAMNI Centre. Victoria quickly mastered walking. And after her recovery, she wanted to stay at the Centre to be a reliable support for those who are experiencing the loss of a limb and learning to live in new circumstances. Victoria not only provides counselling to the Unbreakable, but also organises their leisure time, which she almost always spends with them. ‘. The total cost of prosthetics is UAH 1 277 637.
  • Oleh Kys is wearing a bionic prosthetic arm. Oleg Kis, a 33-year-old Lviv resident and experienced agronomist, suffered a severe workplace injury. While working with a hay baler, his arm was crushed, leading to amputation at the level of the forearm. This event dramatically changed Oleg's life, depriving him of the opportunity to continue his favourite occupation. Now, seeking to return to an active life, he turned to the UNBROKEN Orthotics and Prosthetics Centre, where prosthetics specialists fitted him with a modern upper limb prosthesis. ‘.   • Dmytro Gotz - bionic leg prosthesis. Before the Great War, Dmytro Gotz worked and lived abroad. Immediately after the start of the invasion, he returned to Ukraine and joined the military unit 3057 of the National Guard of Ukraine, 12th Operational Brigade, where he served as a grenade launcher. For a year and a half, he fought in many hotspots in eastern Ukraine. The wounded man was operated on by Dnipro medics. Later he had to undergo a series of surgeries in Kyiv and Lviv. Dmytro came to the UNBROKEN Centre for rehabilitation and prosthetics. Dmytro was fitted with a modern bionic leg thanks to donations from Ukrainians through the dobro.ua charity platform as part of the Prostheses for the Unbroken project. ‘. The total cost of the prosthesis is UAH 758,413.
