Vasylko is eight now. His mother keeps everything related to pregnancy and childbirth in her memory as if this happened yesterday. The boy is cheerful, smiling, loves to play. However, his medical card resembles a library folio.

The pregnancy was normal. During all the ultrasounds, the mother was assured that her child was healthy and everything was normal. Childbirth was natural and passed without medical complications. But when the son was born, who was the fourth child in the family, it turned out that he had Arnold Chiari malformation and an open spine lumbar hernia. On the third day, the boy underwent surgery on his back. The doctors made a spinal tube out of soft tissues and covered the naked area of the back with skin. The child's condition after the operation was terrible. The wound festered and healed for a long time. After the neural tube was closed, progressive hydrocephalus was added.

Two months later, after the wound on his back had almost healed, Vasyl underwent bypass surgery. The head began to shrink, but a cerebrospinal fluid cushion formed near the ear. As Vasyl almost did not move his legs, the abdominal muscles were weakened and two inguinal hernias came out. The cerebrospinal fluid cushion also began to increase and in order to eliminate it, the doctors decided to move the bypass. This time everything worked well. The last operation was three years ago, there were six of them aside from the anaesthetic for MRI.

From the age of one and a half, the boy was treated at Bersenev Medical Center in Kyiv. Since then many positive changes have taken place in his development. Vasyl began to hold his head confidently, to turn first from stomach to back, and then from back to stomach, began to crawl and to kneel. The boy plays with toys, watches cartoons, listens to fairy-tales. And despite his difficult diagnosis, he is very jolly. Therefore, his family has high hopes that he will start to talk again one day and may get on his feet again.

Vasylko is 8 years old now. Both parents and doctors see positive changes in its development. That is why the family wants to continue treatment at Bersenev Medical Center and is needs financial aid badly from kind and caring people.
