Pregnancy of Vityusha’s mother was normal and nothing meant trouble. However, in the 33rd week the situation has changed abruptly. Premature and accelerated labour began much earlier than in due time. The infant’s lungs were not ready to breathe because of physiological dis maturity and asphyxia was diagnosed. Short-time oxygen deprivation of brain tissue was catastrophic for the infant and caused cerebral haemorrhage of the 4th grade, cerebral edema, encephalopathy and internal hydrocephalus. The newborn stayed in the neonatal intensive care unit with artificial pulmonary ventilation for a month. When his situation became more stable, the first operation on bypass of brain was made in order to remove the accumulated liquid from the brain.

However, the head circumference continues to grow and the intracranial pressure was becoming higher. The bypasses were obstructing and it was necessary to replace them. During one and a half years the infant had ten of such operations and, as a consequence, it was necessary to treat inflammation of the cerebral ventricle and meningitis. Today Vityusha is 2 years old, he cannot stand by himself and walk, he does not speak. Doctors diagnosed a coarse delay of psychomotor development and spastic tetra paresis. Rehabilitation treatment 3-4 times a year is advisable. Last May the child has got the first treatment course in the medical centre “Free Movement” (“Svobodnoye dvizheniye”) in Boryspil. There the child got massages, movement therapy, trainer sessions and oxygen and hydromassage tubs.

While he stayed at the centre, Vityusha’s condition improved considerably. He tolerated rehabilitation well and received the full course of treatment. As a result, muscles of the back and neck became stronger, the boy began to raise head better, the range of motions by his left arm increased. Still, a long and hard way is ahead, the treatment necessitates considerable funds. The next rehabilitation course costs UAH 15,400. This amount is problematical for a family with one more child disabled since birth who was diagnosed infantile cerebral paralysis and microcephalia. Please, help to collect funds for treatment!
