Vitia Porokhovoi is a special child who has been struggling for his life since he was born. He was born prematurely, in asphyxia, he survived 4th degree intracerebral hemorrhage. He has been in the intensive care unit for a month, he could not breathe independently and received mechanical ventilation of lungs. He was diagnosed encephalopathy, inflammation of the ventricle in the brain, meningitis and later internal hydrocephalus. The baby’s head kept on increasing due to liquid that gathered there. For a year and a half of his life he survived ten surgeries on brain shunting for liquid removal.

Vitia could not hold his head for a long time, he could not sit, stand or speak. He was diagnosed a coarse delay of psychomotor development and spastic tetraparesis. The child is not the only one having disability in this family. He has an elder brother having microcephaly. It’s hard for the mother to watch her children suffering, she does all possible to help them, but she can’t cope alone…

Thanks to the support provided by Ukrainian Philanthropic Marketplace donors Vitia had several courses of rehabilitation and he has excellent results. He almost got rid of strabismus, he better understands speech addressed to him, sits much better with support for 25 (!) minutes. He can make many new sounds and say many new words, he managed to open his left hand and what is the most important – he now can turn from his back to his belly, before he could only turn to the sides. Also, when lying on his belly he can now get better support from his elbows. His head is still heavy, however, he can hold it well. He also can chew better. Lots of work is yet to be done, but the kid does his best. All these positive results were reached only thanks to the support of kind and caring people.

The next rehabilitation course is scheduled for October, it costs 24,000.00 UAH, the family does not have such money. We ask you to respond and support the kid! He has all chances for recovery and full life!
