Culinary Skills
As part of the “Cooking Workshop” at the Child-Friendly Space, a series of hands-on classes was held during which children and teens learned the basics of cooking, how to work with ingredients and kitchen utensils, and prepared a variety of dishes and desserts.
During the sessions, participants prepared both sweet and healthy treats. The children made glazed cheese curds, fruit smoothies, milkshakes with ice cream, milk, and fresh berries, fruit jellies, and a dessert called “Waffle Delight” made with waffles, condensed milk, and bananas.
Special attention was paid to creative food presentation. The children created a bouquet of sandwiches and prepared a dessert called “Strawberry Fairy Tale on Skewers” made with strawberries and marshmallows, which they decorated with chocolate. The participants also created a dessert called “Flowers in a Pot” using chocolate, cookies, and cheese, and decorated gingerbread cookies with icing and sprinkles.
There was no shortage of culinary experiments either. During the classes, the children learned about various ingredients, practiced combining foods, followed the proper sequence of preparation, and neatly plated the finished dishes.
Safety rules were an important part of the culinary workshops. Participants learned how to use a microwave oven and reviewed safe practices for working with a blender and other kitchen appliances.
The series of classes gave the children an opportunity not only to try their hand at being little chefs, but also to gain practical experience, develop independence and attentiveness, and learn safe kitchen habits.
The “Cooking Workshop” combined learning, creativity, and hands-on practice, providing participants with new knowledge, experience, and the joy of preparing their own meals.
