They don't see her, she doesn't hear them... 2
Dear donors! There are especially troubled histories. This is one of them. A deaf daughter was born to blind parents. They do not see her, and she does not hear them... The fortune of this family has moved many hearts. People pooled some money and in September 2018 Veronika underwent a cochlear implant operation. And in December, the state budget program covered the implant for the second ear. Doctors forecast that the child’s hearing should recover in 100% and be no different from the sound of a healthy person in six months after implantation already. Yet, in order for the girl to learn to speak, she needs daily classes with a teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing. The cost of each such class session is 200 UAH.
Parents paid for the first three months of the classes themselves after placement of the cochlear implant. Veronika began to respond to different sounds and to her name thanks to these classes. She is now learning to recognize non-verbal sounds, such as dog barking, birds singing, musical instruments, and environmental sounds. She can read simple words and phrases and relate what she read with pictures. The girl is happy to master new skills for her.
Such postoperative audio-verbal rehabilitation is very important for the integration of the child into the society of hearing people. It is impossible to achieve optimal results without it. Veronika needs to learn how to perceive sound signals, both speech and non-speech, to understand them and use them to develop spoken conversational speech. Since until now she communicated only with gestures and was not at all used to hear or to say something.
But rehabilitation is a long process that requires financial expenditures. The Center for Hearing and Speech "Medinkus" put up the invoice of 384 classes for the amount of 76800,00 UAH. For the disabled family, this amount is impossible. Veronika's mom and dad work in the enterprise for blind people. Nadiia makes hangers, Alexander works as common labor. They have meager income. Parents paid for classes for three months, but now they have no such opportunity. Therefore, we kindly ask you to respond and support little Veronika, to help her to hear and to speak!
