Maksym has not only had to deal with a series of frightening diagnoses, but also with difficult trials. In early childhood, he was left without parents, who were deprived of their parental rights, and since then, his only support has been his grandmother, who is fighting for her grandson, his childhood, and his future.
The boy was born prematurely, at 35 weeks, weighing only 1,990 grams. Due to sudden cardiac arrest, he underwent emergency surgery and ended up in intensive care. After discharge, the child's development was slow: Maksym learned to sit at only 10 months and began to walk at a year and a half. But then he suffered another blow – a severe triple infection: chickenpox, Coxsackie virus, and cytomegalovirus. The infection severely affected the child's nervous system – the boy lost his ability to walk, talk, and even crawl, and suffered severe seizures (up to 15 per day).
Since then, his grandmother has been constantly fighting for his health. The child needs continuous treatment, care, and rehabilitation. Maksym is now 8 years old, he cannot take care of himself, wears diapers all the time, has psychosomatic problems, emotional disorders, suffers from seizures, and needs round-the-clock care. Maksym is homeschooled because his condition prevents him from attending school. Due to the stress of war, the boy began to gain weight rapidly. The family has already survived seven air raids, one of which caused their balcony to collapse. They cannot move or rent an apartment because all their money goes toward food, medicine, and rehabilitation.
But Maksym's diagnoses are not a death sentence; even with them, a person can develop and live a full life. With properly organized corrective assistance and support, it is possible to significantly improve a child's social adaptation, skills, and quality of life. Medication and rehabilitation treatment are yielding good results. Maksym feels much better, suffers less from seizures, has become calmer, is sleeping better, and is interested in the world around him. Even one course of rehabilitation at the Koziavkin Clinic is an unaffordable sum for his grandmother. But she cannot not treat her grandson, and she is doing everything she can to improve his condition. However, her own efforts are not enough, and she is turning to each of us for support and asking for help in saving her grandson's childhood and future!
