The life of nine-year-old Maksym is a daily struggle and a testament to unbreakable will. Every step he takes forward is the result of incredible effort because he was born prematurely, weighing only 1990 grams. Immediately after birth, he was placed in intensive care due to cardiac arrest. After that, a severe cytomegalovirus infection affected his nervous system, disrupting his development. After losing his parents, his only support became his grandmother – a loving, gentle, and strong woman who is devotedly fighting for his future.
The war brought terrible trials into their lives: shelling, the destruction of their home, and for Maksym – heavy emotional trauma, anxiety, and rapid weight gain. Due to brain damage, Maksym studies at home, completely dependent on adult support and requiring constant care. Yet despite everything, Maksym bravely moves forward. Thanks to the support of kind-hearted people, he has already completed the third course of neurophysiological rehabilitation at the International Kozyavkin Clinic. Doctors note significant progress. He has become calmer, sleeps better, concentrates more, and openly communicates with adults, showing a genuine desire to engage actively with the world around him.
These small victories are a source of great joy for the grandmother and offer hope for a better future. However, her condition requires constant care: any interruption in her treatment risks undoing the progress she has made. It is therefore vital that she undergoes the next course of rehabilitation. Grandma does everything she can at home, but as a lonely elderly woman, she cannot afford rehabilitation, nappies, medication or medical examinations. Our charity is working hard to raise funds for the next course of rehabilitation and hygiene products for six months. We sincerely appeal to everyone who can support this family. Only together can we help Maksym take another big step towards a full and happy life.
