On 29 May 2024, Shulga Marta, born in 2019, from Zaporizhzhia region, underwent surgery.
Small, weak, but at the same time very strong, Marta has been fighting for her life since birth.
Marta is the expected child in the family. Unfortunately, the first sad news came in the maternity hospital - hypoxia. And 4 months later, Marta was admitted to the hospital: 2 cardiac arrests and a week of coma. The girl spent a month on a ventilator. Then she spent another year in the hospital: examinations, treatment and the first diagnoses, including congenital heart disease and dandy walker anomaly.
Her parents never stopped believing in their daughter, taking rehabilitation courses and working with specialists at home.
But the war made its own adjustments. A family from the city of Berdiansk, Zaporizhzhia region. At the beginning of the full-scale war, they were forced to leave, realising the risks to their special child. Now the family lives in Rivne, where they had to start life from scratch. The girl began to get sick more and more often, which puts an additional burden on the child's heart. During a consultation with doctors at the Amosov Institute, it was found that Marta's heart was enlarged and the girl urgently needed endovascular surgery.
Marta's mother is unable to work because she has to look after her daughter; her father works as a loader. All the family members remain under occupation. The family is unable to raise the necessary amount for the occluder.
On 29 May 2024, Marta underwent surgery to close her heart defect. The occluder for the operation was purchased thanks to the ‘Everything is in Your Hands’ collection.
