On 27.02.2024, Victoria Sokolova, born in 2006, underwent surgery.

The Sokolov family is from the city of Luhansk. Victoria was born here.

At birth, the girl had no heart problems. At the age of five, the first cardiovascular symptoms began to appear - shortness of breath, a feeling of lack of air. And after the girl suffered from covid, problems with heartbeat and blood pressure were added. After the examination, she was diagnosed with VSD and tachycardia. The prescribed treatment did not help the girl. Unreasonable weakness, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, shortness of breath and headaches constantly accompanied the child.  Before starting the eleventh grade, her parents decided to have Victoria examined once again and turned to the Scientific and Medical Centre for Paediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery in Dnipro. Here, for the first time, the girl was diagnosed with a heart defect - an open arterial duct. At that time, the girl was finishing school, a full-scale invasion began and no treatment measures were taken.

In 2023, the girl's condition deteriorated again. The family had already moved to Kyiv at that time, so they turned to the Amosov Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery. After an echocardiographic examination, the diagnosis was confirmed - a 3 mm patent ductus arteriosus. Doctors advised to perform invasive surgery as soon as possible.

The family now lives in Kyiv, having left their hometown of Luhansk in 2014 when the fighting started. Since then, they have changed their place of residence 5 times - Kreminna, Sievierodonetsk, Lysychansk, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia. But all this time, the war was catching up with them. In June 2022, her parents decided to move to Kyiv, where they still live together.

Victoria entered and is currently studying at the Mykhailo Drahomanov Ukrainian State University to become a teacher of speech and language pathology, and dreams of helping children with various disabilities.

Due to the fact that a significant part of the family's income is spent on rent, the family cannot afford to buy an occluder for endovascular surgery on their own. So they turned to us for help.

On 27 February 2024, Victoria underwent endovascular surgery. The girl's occluder, which cost UAH 41 thousand, was purchased at the expense of benefactors who support Sabina's initiative.

Today Victoria is being prepared for discharge.

We sincerely thank Sabina Musina and every benefactor for their help for another saved heart.
