Light the fire of victory: psychological support during the war

Vulkan Casino has supported the Gidna project by the team of the Charitable Foundation Future for Ukraine and donates UAH 136 800 to pay for qualified psychological assistance to women who have suffered from sexual violence.

One of the most terrible crimes is sexual violence. The chronicles of the war have revealed thousands of horrific stories of abuse and rape, which left many Ukrainian women alone with grief, severe psychological trauma and even suicide.  

"Rape is a weapon of war. Although we do not yet know the full extent of its use in Ukraine, it is clear that it was part of the Russian arsenal... Women were raped in front of their children, girls in front of their families, as a deliberate act of subjugation. Rape is a war crime," Melinda Simmons, the British Ambassador to Ukraine, wrote on Twitter. 

This topic is extremely difficult, because victims often hide what they have done and do not seek help - a sense of shame, pain and despair, fear of judgment do not allow them to take the first step. That is why more and more projects are emerging in Ukraine that provide qualified psychological assistance on a pro bono basis. One of them is the Gidna project by the team of the Future for Ukraine Charitable Foundation, in which psychotherapists with many years of experience in dealing with trauma of violence provide counseling. In particular, they learned from the experience of their Israeli colleagues and were trained by psychologist Ruth Dorum (Israel Trauma Coalition), who specializes in working with trauma of sexual violence and the mental consequences of war. Unfortunately, this knowledge is not relevant to our country, but it will help support as many women as possible. Thanks to Vulkan Casino's contribution, psychologists will be able to provide 114 consultations as part of the therapeutic process for women who have experienced sexual violence.
