Food for the elderly

"I’ve never thought that after 30 years at a factory, I would ask for a hot lunch with my hand out", one of our wards says. We currently serve meals for more than 750 such families per month, namely, old grandparents, people with disabilities and large families who are struggling to survive because of hunger and poverty. We have the opportunity to help even more people in need, but we lack resources. At the moment, the issue of purchasing additional food and disposable tableware is more important than ever before. In order to almost double the number of beneficiaries for one month, we need to raise UAH 20 783.

In two years of active work, we  never left our wards alone to grieve and deal with their problems on their own. In the current circumstances, one of the global and all-encompassing disasters is that many people are starving, since most Ukrainians cannot afford simple things, such as high-quality medical care and treatment, education for their children and grandchildren, and, perhaps worst of all, good nutrition these days.

People who live in very difficult conditions often come to us. Because of complicated financial situation, respectable age, loneliness or serious illness, they have to deal with their problems all alone. They spend all their money on utilities and minimum purchases of medicine. Often there is little or no money left to buy food. When we hear that a person hasn’t eaten for two days, or such things as ‘they have cut off gas for non-payment, so we can't cook yet...’, there is one thing pulsing in our heads – ‘we must act, and we must do it urgently’! We never say ‘it is impossible’, we are looking for opportunities and options for help.

The team of the Ukrainian Charity Alliance turns to all people concerned who understand the problems of poverty, hunger, old age and care to help us raise funds to purchase additional food and disposable tableware for our wards.

They have for the most part no help and support on the way.

Together, we will be able to feed even more people in need.
