FUNDRAISING IS OVER Sergey used to be a strong man. Our sincere condolences. We sincerely thank all those who believed in Sergey.

Diabetes has destroyed Sergey’s internals, the lad has virtually lost his sight. Last year his both kidneys failed. To date Sergey is 26 and the illness is yet leaving him no chances for the future. Any surgical interference is contraindicated to Sergey, that is why transplantation of the kidneys which would purify the blood is strongly prohibited. But Sergey has a chance to live to undergo free peritoneal dialysis and we are in a position to offer him this chance.

Since the age of two to date Sergey Gorbatenko from the city of Komsomolskoye in Donetsk Region has been suffering a severe form of diabetes, but in spite of the disease he has always tried to live as a healthy person. He studied in an ordinary school, attended piano classes, was keen on computer hardware and graduated from the Donetsk Polytechnic University, hopeful of a future job and ability to financially support his mother and brother.

The young man’s kidneys failed and now his life depends on not only insulin but also weekly peritoneal dialysis treatments.

Sergey’s doctor recommended the lad’s family to replace hemodialysis which can be carried out only in hospital environment with a more advanced blood purification technique – peritoneal dialysis that can be done by patients themselves. Towards that end, this January Sergey Gorbatenko had a surgery to install a catheter for conducting peritoneal dialysis. Now Sergey continues his treatment at home. People suffering renal Impairment have to do peritoneal dialysis every day. Each month the treatment costs UAH 16,722.00 – this is the price of the young man’s life, which the combined wages of Sergey’s mother and younger brother fail to cover.

It is difficult to imagine the pain and despair of the mother who has been struggling every day with the severe disease of her son from his earliest infancy, realizing that the illness is gradually taking away her own child and practically leaving no chances for proper life. Having exhausted all financial possibilities for helping her son, Tatiana, Sergey’s mother, trusting in human kindness, requests all people who care to help her sick son: “There might be neither work for Sergey in future nor family of his own but I want badly to have him next to me, hear his voice and see his kind smile, I just want him to simply live …”.

This project was canceled, the amount collected is 13 213 UAH. The funds were disposed of in accordance with the Rules, Principles, and Procedures of the Ukrainian Philanthropic Marketplace (UBB) International Charitable Fund and the decisions of the Project Donors.
