On April 6, 2026, the project “Zakhar: A Chance at Life After the Occupation” was posted on the dobro.ua platform of the International Charitable Foundation “UBB” for a total amount of 327,000.00 UAH for the treatment of Zakhar Shpyrka at the Lviv Regional Council’s Public Non-Profit Enterprise “Clinical Center for Pediatric Medicine.” The goal of the project was to raise funds for a boy with a complex diagnosis—“Congenital internal polycystic hydrocephalus. Post-VPS condition, LCS infection, LCS removal. Ventriculitis with ventricular abscess. Isolated 4th ventricle. Symptomatic epilepsy. Spastic tetraparesis.” This condition posed a direct threat to the child’s life and required surgical intervention on the brain. To save Zakhar, on April 8, 2026, doctors performed a complex neurosurgical procedure. The child is currently in critical condition in the intensive care unit. We will provide further updates on his treatment.
Specialized medical supplies were used for the neurosurgical procedure to ensure the safe and effective performance of the operation:
The Strata valve is used to regulate the outflow of cerebrospinal fluid from the brain. It helps control pressure and prevent it from rising.
Set of antibiotic-impregnated ventricular catheters—used to drain fluid from the brain’s ventricles. The antibacterial coating reduces the risk of post-operative infections.
Stylet (23 cm) – an auxiliary instrument used for precise insertion of the catheter into the desired area of the brain.
Non-invasive patient tracker – a component of the neuronavigation system that allows doctors to navigate accurately during surgery without additional intervention in the patient’s body.
Tracer—a navigation tool that helps determine the exact location of brain structures during the procedure.
External drainage and monitoring kit—used for temporary fluid drainage and monitoring of intracranial pressure after surgery.
Ventricular reservoir with catheter (12 mm, 23 cm) – implanted to provide access to the brain’s ventricular system, allowing for the administration of medication or drainage of fluid as needed.
These materials were critically necessary for performing the surgery and for subsequent monitoring of the patient’s condition.
A financial report is provided for all funds used.
