Preserving dignity even when things are difficult
Even when seriously ill, even when you can barely sit up in bed... maintaining one's dignity is crucial until the end. For most people, the delicate matter of how to use the bathroom when mobility is compromised is very painful. Resorting to diapers is the last option, accepted only out of desperation when no other choices remain. A slightly better option is a commode, but getting accustomed to it takes time, and it's still not very comfortable.
If a person is not entirely immobile and can at least sit with assistance, a specialized toilet chair becomes useful. It can be placed conveniently beside the bed, providing a more comfortable alternative to diapers or a commode. For caregivers, this option is also more convenient.
Our foundation takes care of the palliative care unit in a hospital*, where seriously ill, mostly elderly patients reside. Many are partially paralyzed or extremely weakened, making it challenging to reach the shared restroom. Toilet chairs were immediately requested by patients, their relatives, and nurses upon our introduction. Therefore, we now seek your support to purchase 8 such toilet chairs. Additionally, we need to acquire 6 commodes to meet the unit's needs and assist those patients for whom transferring to a toilet chair is not possible. This will make a significant difference in the lives of our patients and the caregivers looking after them.
