Zhytomyr. To help the littlest ones
A temperature sensor is a tiny while an extremely important element within a sophisticated climate system for nursing preterm infants: an incubator. These are specifically incubators that successfully substitute for mom’s belly for little impatient ones who have rushed to come into the world before the day fixed by the nature: they help little babies to adapt to the aggressive environment where it is too cold, too dry, too bright and too noisy. Thanks to special sensors, these wonder cradles help to automatically control humidity and temperature, thus creating the necessary conditions for their guests to assimilate, grow and flutter into the world, healthy and strong.
However, nothing lasts forever, and operation life of tiny elements within sophisticated gear gets exhausted. Sensors go out of function and require replacement. Unfortunately, in a situation of regular underfunding of medical facilities in our country, maintenance and purchasing of expendables for a continued operation of the equipment becomes a real challenge for administrations of maternity hospitals and perinatal centres. Public funds are not provided, and the equipment cannot function properly, or quite often, it collects dust in supply closets.
Then regular people who care about the problem of preterm infant nursing come to help doctors. These are us! The goal of the project is to raise funds to purchase 4 temperature sensors for incubators for the newborn intensive care unit at the Zhytomyr Regional Perinatal Centre where more than 300 little babies are nursed every year. The availability of these sensors affects directly the quality of medical help for the infants. If a sensor does not promptly detect a deviation of the temperature from the target one, a baby who is weak enough already will feel a strong stress, which will have an extremely negative impact on his or her treatment.
Everyone of us can make our modest contributions for the fastest recovery of the littlest and most helpless patients of the Zhytomyr Regional Perinatal Centre, and give them childhood free of diseases, drop-bottles and pills.
