Tymofii is 15 years old. He was born prematurely – at 32 weeks of pregnancy. But he fought through. God gave him incredible strength to battle for his life every single day.
After birth, Tymofii underwent two blood transfusions, had extremely high bilirubin levels, pneumonia, and critically low hemoglobin. After everything he endured, his parents noticed that he did not react to sounds the way other children did. It was hard to believe, but medical examinations confirmed the diagnosis – organic bilateral sensorineural hearing loss.
Bilateral sensorineural hearing loss is damage to the auditory nerve and inner ear, which means sounds either do not reach the brain at all or reach it severely distorted. Without hearing aids, Tymofii essentially lives in partial silence. He can only hear very loud, sharp sounds, but he cannot understand speech, which makes learning and communication extremely difficult.
Despite his diagnosis, Tymofii is an active, kind, and determined boy. He loves sports, is passionate about football, and dreams of becoming even better in the future. However, due to his hearing challenges, he cannot always hear the coach’s instructions or the voices of classmates on the field. This creates a barrier that cannot be overcome without proper hearing assistance.
At school, he tries hard to keep up, but he often cannot hear the teacher’s explanations, forcing him to catch up on the material at home. Tymofii deeply wants to be independent, communicate on equal terms, and live a full teenage life.
Modern hearing aids will give Tymofii the ability to:
-
clearly perceive human speech;
-
distinguish voices in noisy environments (school, gym);
-
hear the world around him without distortion;
-
socially adapt and overcome the feeling of isolation;
-
move safely in space by orienting himself through sounds.
These devices will open the door to a full life that is currently greatly limited. Help Tymofii – every contribution brings him closer to a life without silence.
