There is no living space on it: the whole body is in bandages and plasters, from under which catheters and wires come out. Next to the bed are tiers of droppers and life support devices. From the first seconds Veronichka has to fight for her life: she was born tiny, only 1750 grams, and immediately with two heart defects – an atrial septal defect and mitral insufficiency.

Both vices are incompatible with life.  Immediately after the examination, the cardiologist stuns the parents: the only way to save their daughter is open heart surgery.

Veronica is one of five thousand children who are born annually in Ukraine with heart defects.  Unfortunately, due to the lack of proper diagnostics or the ability to have surgery on time, more than 800 of them die. Those who are lucky, like Veronica, end up in the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery. This is exactly the place where children with congenital heart defects have a chance to be saved.

Annually, 10-12 thousand small patients from all over Ukraine are examined at the medical facility, and 700-750 are then operated on. These are children who get their chance. However, unfortunately, the equipment, which is literally the guarantee of salvation, is constantly wearing out, and because of the critical underfunding, the institution cannot afford to buy expensive equipment on its own.

Now there is an urgent need to purchase modern equipment for the children's operating room. These are the Leon Plus anesthesia machine (made by Lowenstein, Germany), the patient's condition monitor CSM-1901 Pro (made by Nihon Kohden, Japan) and the bedside patient monitor CSM-1502 Pro (made by Nihon Kohden, Japan).  With this equipment, it will be easier for doctors to monitor the vital functions of young patients, and therefore, the risks to their lives will decrease.

Veronica's life during the operation and in the intensive care unit also depended on the devices. Not as modern as we would like, somewhat "worn out", but even with them, cardiac surgeons managed to pull the child out of the disease. When they have new high-quality equipment, there will be much more such happy stories!

Children should not die from diseases that can be cured!  Let's do it for them!

The project is being assembled within the framework of the "Road of Goodness - Small Miracles are Available to Everyone" project.
