Technological prosthesis for a defender of Ukraine

He lost his arm while pulling his comrades from the battlefield. At the UNBROKEN Centre, another defender with a complex amputation was fitted with a bionic prosthesis. The patient was able to receive this high-tech iron limb thanks to donations from Ukrainians on the dobro.ua charity platform

Oleksandr Privedion from Zhytomyr region. At the age of 26, he has already done a lot: he served in the police for several years and fought at the frontline in the hottest spots. The fighter lost his arm this year in February near Avdiivka. He was pulling out his wounded comrades and before he knew it, he himself received a severe mine-blast injury. The shrapnel severely damaged the defender's arm. It had to be amputated at the level of the upper third of the shoulder.

Oleksandr came to Lviv for prosthetics at the UNBROKEN Prosthetics and Orthotics Centre. The specialists, together with their British colleagues, decided to fit this patient with an iron arm with a shoulder with an external power source and a hybrid electronic elbow. With such a complex amputation, this prosthesis is the best solution. With it, Oleksandr will be able to fix his elbow in comfortable positions using the signals sent by his muscles when they contract.

After the rehabilitation is complete, the defender wants to continue his service at all costs. He is sure he can be useful to the Armed Forces even after such a serious injury. Oleksandr plans to work in one of the recruitment centres.

We are grateful to the Ukrainians who contribute to the "Prostheses for the Unbroken" charity project. Thanks to your donations, our defenders are able to receive such high-tech artificial limbs.
