He runs to raise money for prosthetics for defenders

Ultramarathon runner Mykola Taran is preparing for his next race. Now every race he runs is about helping Ukraine's defenders. Mykola aims to raise 100,000 UAH to help soldiers who lost their limbs in the fighting.

Mykola was able to join renowned international races for free, as such sports venues are also an opportunity to remind the world of Russia's war in Ukraine. The ultra-marathoner set a goal to raise 100 thousand hryvnias for modern prostheses for the military. He also found a platform for official cooperation – he became a running ambassador for dobro.ua.

Those who have lost their upper limbs are usually fitted with hooks or cosmetic prostheses. But to at least partially recreate the function of the hand, bionic prostheses are needed. Thanks to special sensors, they can perform the functions of a limb better than any other prosthesis. But their price is sky-high – from 20 to 50 thousand euros.

"There is a great demand for people, our military, who return from the war, from hospitals, not just to get a prosthesis that will cover their basic needs, or just the appearance of their hands, or just to be able to walk. They need a prosthesis so that they can socialize back into society, so that they can find a job, so that they can hold the hand of a loved one, work on a laptop and lead a more or less full life," Bohdan Berdnyk, PR manager at dobro.ua, says.
