Hello! I do not like using the phrase “Stranger children do not exist”. However, as a mother of many children, a traveler, and a volunteer of ‘Happy Child’ Charity Fund, I am certain there are children I am responsible for and there are children whom I can give help and support. Because it is not enough for me to limit myself only to love and care for my own children, I decided to do my bit to the one exceptional boy. A severe disease has not only restricted his movements, but also has stopped an access to oxygen.
Oleksii Oldenburg is only 13 years old. Once he might have dreamed about traveling to the seas or mountains, however the life decided against it. Lyosha has been diagnosed with Duchenne myodystrophy. Unfortunately, he is chained to the bed forever, and is not capable of moving independently. The only thing he dreams about is to be close to his family, to have the possibility to communicate with no fear that the oxygen would stop running, as he can breathe only due to the breathing machine.
Today Oleksii’s life is fully dependent on a new-brand mechanical ventilator. It is necessary to substitute the existing one since it is unable to ensure an uninterrupted operation and can stop any time.
Having said that I cannot stand aside when a child needs a crucial vital component for the life-being – a capability to breathe! Unfortunately, I am too aware of the feeling of shortness of breath when fear and panic with an icy stick paralyze the body. And I know the most terrible mother’s fear – not to feel the warm breath of your child.
