22.02.2024 Bilokin Milana, born in 2019, underwent surgery.
Milana has recently turned 4 years old. She is cheerful, loves to draw and adores her little brother. Her parents had no idea that the girl had a heart defect. The symptoms did not appear for some time and the disease remained undetected.
But Milana began to get sick often, felt weak, and complained of headaches. The girl got tired quickly. The family decided to change the clinic and the family doctor to a more experienced one and have the child fully examined. During the examination, the cardiologist suspected the presence of a heart defect. The girl was sent for an additional examination at Amosov Hospital, where the diagnosis was confirmed - a defect in the atrial septum and a 1 mm hole. This defect causes an incorrect connection between the left and right atria, which is why part of the blood from the left atrium flows into the right atrium. This interferes with a full lifestyle and physical activity, and over time can lead to disability. The girl was recommended to undergo endovascular surgery and to close the defect with an occluder.
The occluder is selected by doctors individually depending on the child's diagnosis. The cost of the occluder required for Milanka's surgery is UAH 119,947. The family cannot afford to buy it on their own. The mother is on maternity leave to care for two children, and only the father works. So the family turned to us for help.
On 22 February 2024, Milan underwent endovascular surgery. The occluder for the operation was purchased thanks to benefactors who supported the Heart's Gift charity campaign.
