Thanks to the charitable support of the mobile operator Vodafone Ukraine, we are implementing a project to purchase an intracranial pressure and temperature monitor for the St. Nicholas Children’s Hospital in Lviv*. This equipment will help save the lives of children in critical conditions, including those affected by the war.
Every year, 28,000 children receive treatment at St. Nicholas Children’s Hospital, and over 90,000 young patients undergo consultations and examinations. Among them:
• Newborns in critical condition
• Children affected by war
• Patients with severe traumatic brain injuries
• Children with oncological and congenital diseases
For these young patients, time is life. In critical conditions, doctors need to make immediate decisions to prevent irreversible brain damage.
Unfortunately, the war has brought even more challenges. The number of children with severe injuries has increased, as well as the number of intracranial hemorrhages in premature newborns. Without modern brain monitoring equipment, doctors are forced to act intuitively, relying only on external symptoms. This can cost a child their health or even life.
As part of this project, we are purchasing a modern intracranial pressure and temperature monitor, which will allow:
✔ Continuous monitoring of brain function in children with neurosurgical conditions
✔ Detecting brain swelling risks before symptoms appear
✔ Controlling brain temperature, which is critical for newborns and post-surgical patients
✔ Reducing the risk of complications, preventing severe damage to the nervous system
✔ Precise medication dosing, increasing treatment effectiveness and minimizing side effects
The monitor will enable doctors to control the vital indicators of over 1,500 children per year, treated in intensive care, neurosurgery, neonatal resuscitation, and trauma departments.
Its use will reduce the risk of complications by 40%, accelerate the recovery of young patients, and improve the quality of medical care, ensuring treatment according to modern international standards.
Every day, dozens of children with severe injuries in the hospital require continuous brain monitoring. Unfortunately, doctors do not have enough of this vital equipment. The purchase of this monitor will give more children a chance at life.
This project is another step towards ensuring that Ukrainian children receive the highest level of medical care here, in their own country.
We sincerely thank Vodafone Ukraine for its support in helping to save children’s lives!
