Angelina is the youngest child in the family. At the maternity hospital, doctors examined the girl and measured her blood sugar, as her older brother had already been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The child grew up cheerful and lively, but the joy was short-lived. The girl began to get sick more often, was lethargic and gloomy, and her appetite was replaced by constant thirst. And then one day Angelina ended up in the intensive care unit. Her mother's tears, her little daughter's cries, her refusal to believe what was happening... But, unfortunately, the diagnosis was grim: type 1 diabetes, already in her second child.
The girl is now 12 years old. She goes to school and has many friends. She enjoys drawing, loves animals, and likes to ride her bike. But the disease forced Angelina to grow up early: to learn to control her condition, measure her sugar levels and inject insulin on her own, and follow a strict diet.
Currently, the girl is prone to hypoglycemia and rapid spikes and drops in blood sugar. She has to prick her fingers about 10 times a day. This is especially difficult at night – sleep, which is extremely important for a young body, has to be constantly interrupted because blood sugar levels must be measured regardless of the time of day. This can be done without unnecessary pain and inconvenience using continuous glucose monitoring sensors. Unfortunately, the family cannot afford them: they are prohibitively expensive for a family with two insulin-dependent children. In addition, only the father works in the family – the mother is retired to care for the child. Please help Angelina not to lose her childhood!
