UPD 24.05.21: unfortunately, Ania died. The disease was stronger. The UBB team brings our sincere words of condolences to the girl’s family and thanks to everyone who supported Ania.

Two rare serious illnesses at the same time became a shock. But Anya summoned up all her strength and accepted the fight. She needs you all to survive.

From her birth, Anya lives with a rare genetic disease - cystic fibrosis. This is the result of a DNA breakdown that causes changes in the functioning of all vital organs. Cystic fibrosis disrupts the processes of digestion and assimilation of food, destroys the liver, pancreas and lungs. The patient must do a whole set of exercises and inhalations every day just to breathe freely. The patient must take a large number of supportive medications, go to the hospital regularly. The patient has an increased vulnerability to infections, and recovers longer than the ordinary people. Cystic fibrosis dictates many requirements and restrictions and Anya copes with all this. In Ukraine, the girl became one of the first generation of children with cystic fibrosis who survived the age of majority. Only a few years ago in Ukraine, most patients with cystic fibrosis died as children. Today Anya is 23, there are several dozens of her peers in Ukraine.

Anya tamed cystic fibrosis, got used to living with it, studied at the university and made plans for her adult life.

The year 2020, in addition to the world cataclysms, brought grief to Anya's family: she became seriously ill and her father died quickly. The relatives did not have time to recover from the loss, as Anya began to feel bad. Tests and examinations were delayed, no one could have guessed, but in the last days of summer the diagnosis was definitively determined: acute myeloblastic leukemia, a rather rare form.

The treatment guidelines dictate the need for a bone marrow transplant. But one needs to be in remission to do this, to suppress cancer cells inside. The girl has already passed the 1st cycle of chemical therapy, and she is recovering from the consequences. Quite a lot of drugs are provided at the expense of the budget, but not all. And there is no time. It is extremely difficult to fight both cystic fibrosis and cancer at the same time. Anya is the only such patient throughout Ukraine. There are only a few of them in the whole world. This is an extremely difficult struggle, every detail matters.

It is important that Anya receives today absolutely all medicines prescribed to Anya today. Anya is set to fight for her life. However, it is possible only if each of you who reads these lines will support her.
