The children's intensive care unit of the Amosov Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery needs to purchase an ultra-compact T-lite ultrasound machine from Sonoscanner (France).

The department can admit up to 500 patients annually, simultaneously accommodate up to 10 children, their treatment is carried out by 10 anesthesiologists. Basically, these are children from birth to 1 year.

During the stay of children in the department, their condition can change dramatically. To quickly find out the reasons, an ultrasound machine is needed, which will allow us to assess the state of the lungs, brain, blood vessels. Choosing this particular device, the staff of the children's intensive care unit defined the following criteria:

- the possibility of using the device by non-specialists in ultrasound diagnostics. In case of an urgent need to conduct a study on a weekend or at night, ultrasound specialists may not be in place. It is important that the anesthesiologists are able to conduct the examination themselves. A large number of preset modes are programmed in the device that the department has chosen; there is no need to adjust the settings to carry out work;

- lightness and mobility. When the count goes on for minutes, the device must be urgently transferred to one of the wards or to the operating room, it must be light. The entire ultrasound machine is the size of a tablet, 2 probes are connected to it for various studies. Light weight (1 kg) allows the doctor to quickly get to the patient (a conventional ultrasound machine is a cabinet with a system unit and a monitor). The loading time of the device is 30 seconds, a conventional ultrasound machine is loaded in 5 minutes;

- easily disinfected. It is important to observe the sterility regime. The flatbed implementation of the ultrasound machine is easily disinfected, since it does not have buttons and other parts around which dirt can collect;

- shockproof. Since the unit is placed on a bed or operating table, there is a risk of falling. The T-lite can withstand impact on tiles.

The cost of the device is 948 600 UAH.

In 2008, a French doctor, professor of resuscitation medicine Daniel Lichtenstein developed a research protocol of the state of the lungs using an ultrasound machine. His observations showed that in 90% of cases a 3-4 minute diagnosis allows a correct diagnosis of the condition of the lungs. An ultrasound machine can replace MRI, fluoroscopy and CT diagnostics in cases where this is not possible (no equipment, weekends, etc.) or unacceptable (babies, pregnant women, etc.). The value of the so-called BLUE protocol developed by Liechtenstein has increased significantly in connection with the coronavirus epidemic. The emergence of the protocol makes it possible for ultrasound diagnostics to be carried out by non-experts in this field, but by doctors in other specializations.

In subsequent years, D. Lichtenstein developed a number of protocols for the prompt establishment of diagnoses using ultrasound. In particular, in 2016 he presented the SESAME protocol for ultrasound diagnostics in cases of acute heart failure. The slogan of Liechtenstein's work is "Ultrasound for the whole body." The popularity of this approach has caused the need to create a new class of ultrasound diagnostic devices: they must be accurate, compact, available for use by non-experts in sonography (ultrasound). The T-lite Sonoscanner belongs to this class.

One of the main arguments in favor of acquiring T-lite Sonoscanner is that Daniel Lichtenstein is the main consultant for the company. It helps to create a device with a large set of presets, which makes the ultrasound machine even more accessible to a wide range of doctors. New presets are uploaded over the Internet, but special sensors are needed to test certain tissues. The weight of the device is 800 g.

On dobro.ua we collect part of the required amount – UAH 474 300,000.

To help you, you can:

- to contribute to this project, and all funds will be used to purchase an ultrasound machine,

- send a charity SMS to 88001 (SMS cost is 20 UAH).
