Maksym does not hear explosions, but he feels vibrations and is very scared. He and his family were forcibly displaced from the Donetsk region. Maksym has bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. 

Up to 3.5 years old, the boy spoke individual words, often did not respond to his name. After the removal of his adenoids, he never spoke.

In June 2023, Maksym was diagnosed with bilateral deafness at the Kyiv Institute of Otolaryngology. Then the parents bought their son hearing aids. But after 2 years they failed: weak noise reduction, poor-quality speech recognition - it is difficult for the child to learn, understand and speak.

Maksym is now 5 years old, he lives with his parents in Dnipro, where the family was forced to move from his native village of Boikivske, Kalmiuske district, Donetsk region.

Maksym goes to a private kindergarten that works according to the Montessori system. He regularly works with a speech therapist, a deaf teacher and a neuropsychologist. The boy can count to twenty, tries to speak in phrases, learns the alphabet, but it is difficult for him to recognize sounds. His speech development corresponds to the level of a three-year-old child, but Maksym tries his best to understand what is said to him in order to communicate with other children.

Maksym loves to ride a bike, is fond of gymnastics, plays football. He loves listening to music and dreams of his own ATV. In order to develop, he needs to hear the world, but without high-quality hearing aids, the boy remains in silence.

In the Dnipro medical and diagnostic center "Slukh-servis", Maksym was selected modern Oticon Opn Play hearing aids for both ears. For a family where only the father works, their cost is prohibitive. The mother has devoted herself entirely to taking care of her son.
