In the first days and weeks of life, prematurely born babies require special attention from doctors. Their bodies are not yet fully ready for independent life outside the mother: the respiratory system may be immature, the heart rhythm - unstable, and the oxygen level in the blood may change very quickly. That is why such babies need constant health monitoring.
In the department of post-intensive care for newborns, neonatal and postnatal care of the Municipal Non-Profit Enterprise "Central City Clinical Hospital" of the Chernivtsi City Council, there are prematurely born babies and newborns who require careful supervision after birth. Doctors accompany the little patients every day to examinations, consultations, and necessary medical procedures. During such transfers between departments, it is especially important not to lose control over the child’s vital signs.
For this, the hospital needs 2 reusable sensors for a transport pulse oximeter.
A transport pulse oximeter helps medical staff continuously monitor the level of blood oxygen saturation and the child’s heart rate during transportation. This is critically important for newborns in an unstable condition, because even a short-term decrease in oxygen levels can be dangerous for the baby’s brain, heart, and other organs.
The sensor – is the very part of the equipment that is directly attached to the child and transmits readings to the monitor. In the case of newborns, especially prematurely born babies, such a sensor must be very sensitive, accurate, and safe for the small patient. It allows doctors to see changes in real time and respond quickly if the child’s condition worsens.
The special feature of such sensors is that they can be used for patients with very low weight. This is important specifically for neonatal departments, where care is provided to children born prematurely or with low birth weight. According to the commercial offer, the reusable universal SpO2 sensor is suitable for patients from 1 kg, and the cost of one sensor is UAH 19,360.
For doctors, these sensors – are not just consumables. They are an opportunity to transport a child more safely within the hospital, carry out necessary examinations without interrupting control over the child’s condition, and notice dangerous changes in time. For the little patients – this is an additional chance to avoid complications during a period when their condition is still very fragile.
The Municipal Non-Profit Enterprise "Central City Clinical Hospital" of the Chernivtsi City Council provides care to newborn babies who need constant medical observation after birth. In the department of post-intensive care for newborns, neonatal and postnatal care, there are children who need monitoring of breathing, heart activity, blood oxygen levels, and overall condition.
The daily work of the medical staff of this department – is not only treatment, but also careful support of every child: during their stay in the department, transfer for diagnostics, consultations, or procedures. That is why the availability of functioning transport equipment and sensors for it is an important condition for safe care.
Prematurely born babies often need long-term nursing care and constant monitoring. Their condition may change in a way that is not noticeable externally, but critically according to indicators: oxygen level, heart rate, breathing. That is why monitoring must continue not only near the crib or incubator, but also during the child’s movement through the hospital.
The purchase of two sensors will help the doctors of the Chernivtsi Central City Clinical Hospital accompany newborn patients more safely to examinations and procedures, without interrupting the monitoring of their vital signs.
This is a small purchase in terms of quantity, but a very important one. Because for a prematurely born baby, even a few minutes of timely monitoring can be decisive.
