160 finger pricks per month – this is the life of 13-year-old Maxim from Odessa. At the age of 7, he was diagnosed with diabetes. His carefree childhood immediately turned into constant glucose monitoring, daily insulin injections, and fear of nighttime hypoglycemia.
In accordance with cooperation agreement No. 21 between the Ukrainian Charity Exchange and the charity operator POMAGAEM Charitable Foundation dated August 31, 2020, and supplementary agreement No. 21. 338 dated 25.09.2025, the project “A Safe Tomorrow for Maksym” was posted on the website dobro.ua with the aim of attracting donations to pay for the treatment of Maksym Khrustinsky.
During the fundraising campaign, it became necessary to use part of the funds collected on the website of the Ukrainian Charity Exchange Charitable Foundation (dobro.ua) to purchase some of the sensors for the boy. Therefore, according to letter No. 521 dated October 16, 2025, we received the collected amount of UAH 13,467.00 (thirteen thousand four hundred sixty-seven hryvnias, 00 kopecks) to the Fund's account and continued the collection on the dobro.ua platform.
In October of this year, we purchased Freestyle Libre 2 sensors for Maksym in the amount of UAH 13,467.00 (thirteen thousand four hundred sixty-seven hryvnias, 00 kopecks).
The Freestyle Libre 2 glucose monitoring sensors have been a real support for the family. They accurately indicate when the body needs attention and help to quickly adjust the insulin dose, preventing fluctuations. Thanks to this, diabetes control has improved significantly, and the level of anxiety in the family has decreased.
Maxim is continuing his calm recovery: he goes to school, studies English, and builds his world with small victories; in his free time, he socializes with friends and plays his favorite game, which brings him joy, support, and a sense of belonging.
The boy was recently diagnosed with autoimmune thyroiditis. Now it is extremely important for him to follow a gluten-free diet to relieve unnecessary stress on his body. This is, of course, not easy for Max, but he is holding on. Although sports are not yet part of his life, doctors plan to add light physical activity after he adapts.
Currently, all funds transferred from the Ukrainian Charity Exchange have been spent on the young man's needs, and the project is still raising funds.
We sincerely thank the donors and partners of dobro.ua for their help, and the UBB team for their many years of cooperation!
