160 finger pricks a month – this is the reality of life for 13-year-old Maksym from Odesa. He was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 7. His carefree childhood was immediately replaced by constant monitoring of his blood glucose levels, daily insulin injections and the fear of night-time hypoglycaemia.
In accordance with Cooperation Agreement No. 21 between the International Charitable Foundation ‘Ukrainian Charity Exchange’ and the charitable aid operator, the Charitable Foundation ‘POMAGAYEM’, dated 31 August 2020, and Supplementary Agreement No. 21. No. 338 of 25 September 2025, the project ‘A Safe Tomorrow for Maksym’ was launched on the website dobro.ua with the aim of raising donations to cover the cost of treatment for Maksym Khrustynskyi.
During the fundraising campaign, it became necessary to use part of the funds raised on the website of the Charitable Organisation International Charitable Foundation “Ukrainian Charity Exchange” – dobro.ua – to purchase some of the sensors for the boy. Therefore, in accordance with letter No. 521 dated 16 October 2025, we received the collected sum of 13,467.00 UAH (thirteen thousand four hundred and sixty-seven hryvnias, 00 kopecks) into the Fund’s account and continued the fundraising campaign on the dobro.ua platform.
In October 2025, we purchased a set of Freestyle Libre 2 sensors for Maksym for a total of 13,467.00 UAH (thirteen thousand four hundred and sixty-seven hryvnias, 00 kopecks).
On 10 February 2026, thanks to donors from the Ukrainian Charity Exchange who closed the fundraising campaign for the boy, we received 44,493.00 UAH (forty-four thousand four hundred and ninety-three hryvnias, 00 kopecks) into the Fund’s current account to cover the child’s treatment and project administration.
In February of this year, we purchased Freestyle Libre 2 sensors for Maksym at a cost of 41,733.00 UAH (forty-one thousand seven hundred and thirty-three hryvnias, 00 kopecks), and in March we paid for the project administration.
Maksym is a child who, despite all his diagnoses, remains true to himself: inquisitive, friendly and with a lively, inquisitive gaze that instantly absorbs every new idea. He enjoys learning, loves playing with his friends, takes challenges in his stride, and is gradually learning to tell the world: ‘I can do it’.
The family is sincerely grateful to all caring people for their incredible support with the sensors! Maxim now has continuous glucose monitoring, which allows his mum to always keep track of his readings. Thanks to the sensors, his parents can effectively monitor their son’s health and keep his blood sugar levels within the normal range, preventing both sharp rises and drops. This enables Maksym to attend school and play sports without restrictions.
At present, all funds transferred from the Ukrainian Charity Exchange have been spent on the boy’s needs.
We sincerely thank the donors and partners of dobro.ua for their help, and the UCE team for their long-standing cooperation!
