We run that Vadym could walk! Yulia Savchenko and Zaporuka

For the second time, Zaporuka team will run for its beneficiary led by those who passed this distance and became winners. The children who once struggled against a terrible disease shoulder to shoulder stand with us at the starting line. They run to show that people are unity, and every hardship can be overcome if you are not alone. Today our captain is Yulia Savchenko, a girl who came within a hair’s breadth of losing her life six years ago.

Yulia fell ill when she was 4 years old. Then the team of Ukrainian doctors risked and performed a unique surgery. There were only 10 such surgeries in the world. It was the only chance to save Yulia, and they used it.

Today Yulia is 10. She forgot about cancer but remembers those who had helped her survive. Her grandma Yulia has been working for Zaporuka 6 years. Then their families needed support. Now we cannot imagine our team without her support. Yulia comes to every Zaporuka event to volunteer and she is not our beneficiary anymore but a team member.

We all run in this marathon that Vadym could walk. The life of a 14-year-old boy can be saved if the affected bone is removed. Either his leg will be amputated or we can buy an endoprosthesis the cost of which is 770 600 UAH to save both his leg and his life. "We are only human when we love very much", as Andriy Khlyvniuk sings, and probably there is no better definition of what makes us human, supports us and gives a s strength to move forward...
