Bohdanchyk deserves a childhood

Nine-month-old Bohdanchyk has already endured more hardships than many adults do in a lifetime. Due to a serious brain condition, the boy urgently needs complex neurosurgery. 

Bohdan was born a healthy, much-wanted child. His parents dreamed of their son’s first steps, his first word, and his first birthday. But already in his first year of life, the family faced a devastating diagnosis – hydrocephalus.

Hydrocephalus is a condition in which excess fluid accumulates in the brain. It creates dangerous pressure on the brain and, without timely treatment, can lead to severe developmental disorders, seizures, loss of vital bodily functions, and even pose a threat to the child’s life.

To save Bohdan, doctors had already performed complex neurosurgical treatment and implanted a shunt system designed to drain the excess fluid. But later, one of the most dangerous complications arose – a shunt infection. Because of this, doctors had to remove the system, spend a long time fighting the infection, and save the boy from this new threat.

Bogdanchyk needs neurosurgery – a ventriculoatriostomy. During this surgery, doctors will implant a special system to safely drain excess fluid from the brain. This system will help reduce dangerous intracranial pressure, protect the brain from further damage, and give the boy a chance to develop normally.

Special, expensive medical supplies are needed to perform the surgery. Without them, the doctors will not be able to perform this life-saving procedure.

Today, Bohdan is only nine months old. He has his whole life ahead of him: his first steps on his own, his first words, his favorite toys, preschool, school, friends, and dreams. But right now, all of this depends on whether we can help him in time.
