Fighting the insidious virus

Mariia has a congenital malformation of the brain and epilepsy. In 2023, she was diagnosed with Epstein-Barr virus infection, which weakens the immune system. The girl has undergone 18 courses of treatment with Bioven and needs 6 more vials, but the family has no money to pay for them. Masha's family is asking for your help!

Natalia's labor began suddenly, at 34 weeks of pregnancy, and ended with a cerebral hemorrhage for the child: three weeks under a ventilator, convulsions. And then – endless examinations and rehabilitation courses. Masha was diagnosed with tetraparesis and epilepsy.

Natalia received the second blow of fate in 2007, when her husband perished in a mine in Donetsk. The woman was left alone with three-year-old Masha. She was able to accept her daughter's diagnoses and learned to enjoy every skill she had.

In April 2014, the family had to leave Donetsk. Until the end of the year, they wandered around the region in the hope that they would soon be able to return home. But she still had to stay in a rented apartment in Lviv, and in June 2024, move to Rivne.

Mariia learned to sit, crawl, and stand with support. She partially understands spoken language, but does not speak. The girl likes to be outside, moving around in a wheelchair.

In 2022, Masha began to get sick often and seriously: she suffered five cases of pneumonia, keratitis, cystitis, and other inflammations. They even looked for the cause abroad: everything was in vain until they got an appointment with an immunologist-allergist. It turned out that Mariia had the Epstein-Barr virus. This virus is insidious in that it affects the bone marrow, harms white blood cells, and can also provoke the development of serious diseases, including some types of cancer.

The girl was injected with 18 vials of Bioven over the course of a year. With each dose, her blood counts improve – the virus is receding. To complete the treatment, 6 vials remain to be injected in October.
