Roma, from Pereshchepino in the Dnipropetrovsk region, is an open-minded and inquisitive boy. He is eager to learn new things and takes genuine delight in his achievements. Every skill he masters is the result of perseverance and regular rehabilitation.
In accordance with Cooperation Agreement No. 21 between the International Charitable Foundation ‘Ukrainian Charity Exchange’ and the charitable aid operator, the Charitable Foundation ‘POMAGAYEM’, dated 31 August 2020, and  Supplementary Agreement No. 21.347 dated 13 January 2026, the project ‘Fighting for Every Word’ was posted on the website of the International Charitable Foundation ‘UBB’ – dobro.ua – with the aim of raising donations to cover the cost of Roman Lutsenko’s treatment.
On 9 February 2026, thanks to the donors of the Ukrainian Charity Exchange who contributed to the boy’s fundraising campaign, we received 24,150.00 UAH (twenty-four thousand one hundred and fifty hryvnias, 00 kopecks) into the Fund’s bank account to cover the child’s medical treatment and project administration.
Thanks to the funds received, in February of this year we paid for part of Roman’s rehabilitation at the Charitable Organisation ‘Rehabilitation, Physical Therapy and Inclusive Education Centre named after Saint John the Righteous’.
Romchik is preparing documents to enrol in Year 1, taking into account that he will have an assistant. He interacts willingly with adults and follows instructions, although he sometimes needs additional explanations or help.
His speech development requires further improvement. Roma can repeat words and simple phrases after adults, but difficulties with pronunciation are observed when he speaks: certain sounds are unclear, and he sometimes omits or does not fully pronounce the endings of words.
His level of attention during organised activities depends on his interest. If the activity captures his interest, Roma can remain focused and work until the task is completed. For example, he attended workshops at the charitable organisation ‘Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy and Inclusive Education Centre named after St John the Righteous’, where he was particularly interested in cooking. He enjoyed feeling like a little chef. His parents also encourage him to cook at home, and so far he enjoys this activity and finds it interesting. This approach helps to develop his fine motor skills.
We plan to use the remaining funds of 7,900.00 UAH (seven thousand nine hundred hryvnias, 00 kopecks) to meet Roman’s needs in 2026.
We sincerely thank the donors and partners of dobro.ua for their help, and the UBB team for their long-standing cooperation!
