The fight for life continues

Every day, Yuliia fights for her life. She has a rare and complex oncological disease – neuroendocrine tumors, which caused disruptions in the functioning of internal organs. In addition to the main expensive drug, Yuliia takes a lot of supportive medications every day. Their monthly intake costs 30,000 UAH.

Yuliia lived a normal life ten years ago: she worked, planned her future. One day she felt severe pain in her bones, her lymph nodes became inflamed, and her temperature rose to 40 degrees. While doctors were looking for the cause, Yuliia lost 26 kg.

For a long time, doctors could not understand what was happening to her body. The exact diagnosis was established in 2016 at the Kyiv Institute of Endocrinology, and then confirmed in the Israeli clinic LISOD: neuroendocrine tumors, carcinoid syndrome.

Yuliia was prescribed a new drug, Somatulin. After its injection, the reproduction of tumor cells stops, and the symptoms of the disease weaken for about a month.

Unfortunately, while Yuliia was examined in several clinics, diagnosed and prescribed treatment, time was lost: her adrenal glands failed, and her pancreas, kidneys, liver and parathyroid glands function only with the help of medication.

In the summer of 2021, Yuliia developed diabetes. Daily insulin injections were added to the treatment. Now, in addition to medication, test strips are needed to determine the level of glucose in the blood.

Previously, Yuliia tried to earn some money by knitting things, but a year ago her right arm and left leg went numb, and the pain in her spine intensified. The woman spends most of her time in bed.

Every day, Yuliia takes a large number of medications to support vital organs, as well as for pain, anemia and vitamin D deficiency. Treatment helps fight complications and prevent new ones.
