Sensors on which a child's life depends

More and more babies are being born prematurely in Ukraine. Last year alone, more than 20,000 babies were born weighing between 500 grams and 1 kilogram! Whether these babies survive depends on the availability of special equipment in clinics. That is why CF "Svichado" decided to help the department of neonatal and post-intensive care of newborns in Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Perinatal Centre*. Hospitals constantly need sensors to monitor pulse and oxygen saturation in children.

Pulse oximeter is a medical device that fully monitors the condition of the child during nursing. It has a special sensor that attaches to the baby and monitors how much oxygen the blood is saturated. The doctor or nurse, with this data, can adjust the percentage of oxygen given to the baby depending on the baby's individual needs. Another very important thing is that premature babies often have respiratory arrests (apneas). They may be physiological, due to immaturity and pathological. This condition can be fatal, and with the signal pulse oximeter respiratory arrest can be recognized immediately and take the necessary steps to ensure that the child begins to breathe again.

In addition, the pulse oximeter shows the child's heart rate, which is extremely important in nursing premature infants. After all, immature babies often have arrhythmias (cardiac arrests), which are very difficult to diagnose without monitoring. That is, it is impossible to nurse a premature baby without monitoring critical indicators such as blood oxygen saturation and heart rate.

It is these special pulse oximetry sensors that need to be purchased at the hospital, where little Ukrainians' lives are saved every day.
