Fight the disease

In 2022, Andrii, his mother and great-grandmother had to leave their native Donetsk region due to shelling. Since then, they have been living in a Dnipro shelter: they have no possibility to rent an apartment. Andrey has autism and lactase deficiency; four months ago, his health deteriorated. The child was prescribed laboratory tests and medications to support the functioning of his organs. Victoria is raising her son alone, so this is an unbearable amount for her.

Throughout her pregnancy, Vika was under stress. As a result, the baby was born at 35 weeks. His discharge summary included a diagnosis of hypoxic-ischemic damage to the central nervous system. This caused a developmental delay.

When he was one and a half years old, Andriy stopped talking, looking into his eyes, waving his arms like wings, became selective in his eating, and suffered from vomiting. Three years later, he was diagnosed with childhood autism.

The examination helped to identify congenital lactase deficiency. At first, the child ate only special food, but a year and a half ago, the doctor allowed him to switch to regular food, leaving only lactose-free porridge. He has to grind his food in a blender, as he has not learned to chew, despite regular sessions with a speech and language therapist.

Six months ago, Andriy's digestive system malfunctioned. He lost two kilograms of weight; heaviness and abdominal pain became his constant companions. The reason was a deficiency of bile and enzymes, but a number of laboratory tests were needed to clarify the diagnosis.

The disease is treated like an enemy: you need to collect as much information as possible about it in order to strike back at the target. While the boy is being examined, he needs to take Prema, Forlax, Ursofalk and Escuzan as prescribed by the gastroenterologist.

Andriy is also being seen by an endocrinologist for non-toxic diffuse goitre and hypothyroidism. The boy takes Euthyrox, Yosen, Olidetrim. There are also prescriptions for normalising the nervous system: Agvantar, Silenta, Pediakid Nervosit.

The monthly medication costs about UAH 11,995, and there are also tests to be done for UAH 6,375.

Victoria is raising her son alone. All her money goes to pay for lessons with a speech therapist and rehabilitation. She also takes care of her blind grandmother.
