Davyd is a kind and cheerful 6-year-old boy. He has been living with insulin-dependent type 1 diabetes since he was almost two years old.
Over this time, his family has learned to live under new and particular conditions: daily insulin injections in the morning, in the evening, and before every meal, precise food measurement using scales, and continuous blood sugar monitoring – all of this is necessary to manage the disease and avoid serious complications. Diabetes is a very insidious illness: on the outside a person looks healthy, but within seconds they can begin to feel unwell or even lose consciousness due to sudden changes in glucose levels. Davyd does not always feel low blood sugar, and he does not feel high blood sugar at all. That is why continuous blood sugar monitoring is essential for him to live a healthy life free from complications.
Thanks to charitable support last autumn, Davyd received sensors for round-the-clock glucose monitoring. What a difference it makes to his life! With sensors, the child can live fully without fear of falling asleep and not waking up, or going to school and losing consciousness – because his mother can constantly see the real picture of his glucose levels and respond to changes in time, preventing hypo- or hyperglycemia.
Davyd is a very active and sociable child who does everything he can to live a full life. But there is no stability in diabetes. You never know how a child's body will behave on any given day, or how it will respond to familiar food, a walk, or even a lesson at school. Without a sensor, finger pricks would be needed almost every hour, which is very difficult for a child both emotionally and physically.
At present, the boy is doing well, is not noticeably different from his peers, has full blood sugar compensation, and has no complications. But this is only possible thanks to the tremendous efforts of his parents and the child himself, daily strict control of food intake, adherence to a regular injection schedule, and continuous glucose monitoring with timely responses to changes in readings.
We reach out to every caring person: please help provide Davyd with sensors so that he can continue to live fully, without complications and constant danger!
