I am 32 on July, the 7th , and 11 years of my life I work as medical volunteer, and for the last 5 years together with the team of the Open Palms Charity Foundation I have been helping people to breathe. I saw and experienced what is to be short of breath when holding tight my little suffocating sister in the last hours of her life, how desperately she tried to breathe…

I remember one awful night with my closest friend, when we agreed that we would accomplish euthanasia if in the morning we would not solve the problem with shortness of breath - it was so scary and painful that I really intended to help ... I remember my granny’s last day and her heavy breathing…and how we counted up the minutes until the moment when our friend had to bring oxygen unit from the the warehouse… I've seen too much and have enough memories of the kind. And I know for sure what I want for birthday present: I want sufficient quantity of oxygen devices at Foundation’s supply warehouse, so that other unknown people DO NOT SEE their loved ones are suffocating. Theyshould have an option to call our Foundation today, tomorrow or in a month ... and we shouldtell them: "Yes, here is free device, you may take it». Why people can not breathe? It may be caused by cancer, apoplexy, heart failure, congenital pathology and many other reasons. We provide families of such patients with free oxygen devices and it helps. Some people do not suffocate in the last days and hours of life - and every such moment is priceless for their families and give them some peace and rest. Other patients get chance to breathe freely for some years and live their lives without fear, using every precious moment. Indeed, your life is completely different when you do not count your breath! Today our Charity Foundation has 106 oxygen units. They are distributed among families throughout Ukraine and are working at this very moment, saving someone's breath. We take it back for a while to make maintenance checkup, disinfection and sterilization, complete them with new consumables (respiratory tubes, filters, humidifiers) - and give back to newaddressees. More than hundred and a half people have already received assistance in such a way. The only problem is that we have no reserve stock of the oxygen devices. Sometimesnew patients come faster than we have time to purchase new oxygen units and our ware house is practically empty. This is my biggest fear. I remember very well how we were counting minutes with my grandmother and waiting for a life-saving unit to be delivered to our place. The only thing that I really want on this birthday is to be able to pay for a new batch of oxygen devices, for no one have to be out of breath and wait for any more minute.
