Ten operations for the first steps

      Melasha was born at 28 weeks of pregnancy and weighed only 970 g. She spent the first month of her life in intensive care on a ventilator, and the second month in the neonatal pathology department. At one year old, Melanochka was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and spastic tetraparesis. Since then, she has undergone constant rehabilitation courses, massage, swimming, and operations, one after another. The struggle for the ability to walk continues.
      In accordance with cooperation agreement No. 21 between the Ukrainian Charity Exchange and the charity operator Pomagaem Charitable Foundation dated 31 August 2020 and supplementary agreement No. 21. 325 dated 24 July 2025, the project ‘Ten Operations for the First Steps’ was posted on the website dobro.ua with the aim of attracting charitable donations to pay for the treatment of Melania Kuzmina.
      Subsequently, it became necessary to use part of the funds collected on the dobro.ua website to pay for a set of implants and consumables for the girl's surgery. Therefore, according to letter No. 424 dated 19 August 2025, we received the collected amount of UAH 21,489.00 (twenty-one thousand four hundred and eighty-nine hryvnias, 00 kopecks) to the Fund's account and continued fundraising on the dobro.ua platform.
      On 12 September 2025, Melania underwent her eighth surgery, which lasted about 4 hours. The girl tolerated it very well, and the doctor was satisfied with the results of the surgery.
      Melania is now feeling well. A visit to the doctor is scheduled for 24 October, during which the plaster cast and stitches from the surgery will be removed. She is currently at home, and her studies have been temporarily suspended.

      In the evening, she has to take painkillers because Melanka complains of pain in her leg. And the family pet, Mira the cat, ‘treats’ the girl by carefully lying down on her legs.

      To pass the time a little, Melanka watches television, repeats the alphabet, and counts to 100 and back. Once the cast is removed, she should feel much better.

      Currently, all funds transferred from the Ukrainian Charity Exchange have been spent on the child's needs, and the project is still raising funds.
