Diabetes deprives Yevhen of his childhood
For ten years, Yevhen lived like a normal boy. He ran, played, rode his bike with his friends all day, and ate sweets whenever he wanted. His life was varied and happy. Suddenly, the child began to lose weight. He lost 8 kg in two months. A blood test turned out to be very dangerous. Yevhen was admitted to the intensive care unit for almost a day. Doctors immediately made a difficult diagnosis – type 1 diabetes, insulin-dependent.
The boy spent a month in the hospital. There, a new life began for the mother and son. They were taught how to measure sugar and inject insulin. The mother cried secretly at night while her son slept. And the boy asked his mother unanswerable questions: why and for what he was going through all this. His fingers were pricked 10-20 times a day. It was terrible! How painful it is for a child. Insulin was injected 6-10 times a day, these injections are made in the stomach, legs or shoulders. Yevhen was holding on with his last strength. He tried to be courageous, because he saw how hard it was for his mother.
At home, my mom tried to curb those sugars, but nothing worked. All she could do was prick her fingers, inject insulin and monitor them constantly, day and night. Yevhen's fingers no longer had any living space. Before his illness, he used to play the guitar, but had to give it up because he could no longer play because of the pain. When he got his first senses, he started playing again and enjoyed it.
Now Yevhen is studying in the 8th grade and is very fond of football and the gym. He has always been active, but the disease hinders his desires. Being active causes his sugar level to drop, and the boy feels sick, sweats, and has poor hearing and vision. Friends know about Yevhen's illness and give him juice or candy to make him feel better. If he has no sensors, Yevhen stays at home because it is easier for him. This prevents him from making new friends, because the pace of his life does not match his peers.
Yevhen's mother is raising him on her own. She sincerely wants her son to have a happy childhood, but she simply cannot provide him with everything he needs.
