Twelve-year-old Bogdan is an active, kind boy who always helps around the house. He loves playing soccer and basketball and dreams of becoming an athlete. He wants to live like all children: play, run, make friends, laugh. But he always has a serious and dangerous companion by his side: type 1 diabetes.
Bogdan has had health problems since childhood – from the age of eight months, he suffered from obstructive bronchitis, often had difficulty breathing, and was treated in hospitals and sanatoriums. When the family had almost coped with this disease, a new problem arose – insulin-dependent diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes is a lifelong dependence on insulin and constant fear. The child's body no longer produces insulin, the hormone that regulates blood sugar levels. And if this level rises or falls too sharply, it can be deadly. That is why Bogdan has to prick his fingers several times a day to control his glucose. Even at night, his parents have to wake him up so as not to miss a dangerous drop or rise. This is not only painful and exhausting, but also psychologically difficult. Even when he plays soccer, he always has a glucometer and insulin nearby – the monitoring never stops for a minute.
In addition, Bogdan has vision problems: due to diabetes, he needs to be constantly monitored by an ophthalmologist, undergo procedures, and protect his eyesight, as the disease can seriously affect his eyes.
To make the boy's life easier and enable a future without serious complications, he urgently needs sensors for continuous glucose monitoring. Such devices help control sugar in real time without punctures and even warn of critical changes. Unfortunately, the family cannot afford to provide their son with these life-saving devices on their own – the cost of the sensors and consumables is simply sky-high. Help Bogdan get a chance at a safer childhood!
