Sofiia is a kind and cheerful 11-year-old girl. She is very active and diligent: she gets top grades, loves playing volleyball and riding her bike, attends a drawing club and tries to spend every free minute with her friends.
For almost three years, Sofiia has been living with type 1 insulin-dependent diabetes, which changes a child's plans: a sharp change in her sugar level at any moment can suddenly make her feel unwell.
Diabetes is an invisible disease that requires round-the-clock monitoring. Every day, Sofiia has to count the carbohydrates in her food, check her blood glucose, respond to its fluctuations and live by a strict routine. The correct insulin dose and timely sugar control determine not only how the child feels today, but also her health in the future.
Thanks to the support of benefactors, the family has already received invaluable help, an insulin pump. They are sincerely grateful for this opportunity. The pump has brought diabetes management to a new level and has significantly improved the child's quality of life. The number of daily injections has dropped considerably, and with them the pain, fear and constant tension that accompany every child with type 1 diabetes. The pump helps to manage glucose levels more precisely and gives more peace of mind both to Sofiia herself and to her mother, especially at night, when the risk of dangerous sugar fluctuations is highest.
However, the pump needs special consumables that have to be replaced regularly. Sofiia needs about 10 infusion sets and reservoirs every month. In addition, the family continues to need continuous glucose monitoring sensors to keep her diabetes under safe control.
Unfortunately, it is very difficult for the family to provide both the pump consumables and the sensors on their own. That is why Sofiia's mother is again turning to caring people with a request to support her daughter. Every contribution is a chance for Sofiia to keep living an active childhood, to study, to do art and sport, and to keep her diabetes well managed so as to avoid dangerous complications.
We sincerely thank everyone who supports Sofiia on this difficult path.
