Nine-year-old Maria has type 1 diabetes. Unfortunately, this is an incurable disease that requires constant insulin therapy. For almost a year now, the child and her family have been trying to live a new life.
In March last year, Maria was taken to the hospital by ambulance because she was feeling unwell. The girl's sugar level was critical. She was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit, where she was diagnosed. It was a big blow for the family.
Now, in order to keep her sugar in the normal range, she needs to constantly weigh and calculate her food, calculating the amount of insulin. At first, the girl's mother took blood measurements with a glucometer. This meant piercing her fingers every hour, even at night. It turned out that this was not enough, because Maria's sugar spikes were sharp, and this greatly affected the girl's health and could cause complications in the future. Maria was very afraid of constant injections, even refused to eat to avoid them – it was necessary to switch to using continuous monitoring sensors.
For Maria's family, this is a lot of money. Only her husband works in the family, and her mother stays at home with the child. Maria is not yet able to calculate her own food and calculate how much insulin she needs to inject. Her mother asks for help to get sensors to measure her sugar level.
