Homemade milk in the orphanage

Orphanage in Kremenets keeps 11 cows. Several employees take good care of the animals. Children living in the dorm have an opportunity to take care of animals as all the children like homemade milk. Girls and boys help to pasture the animals, feed them and clean the sheds. But in order to improve milk quality to make it meet the sanitary standards the orphanage needs milking machine but doesn’t have enough funds to buy it.

Everyone is trying to find their own walk of life. Some find it smooth but some people have to go through challenges and troubles. I study and live in Kremenets orphanage with 500 other children. By some quirk of fate I was born in a picturesque village but live in the orphanage. I’m dreaming of coming back to my home grounds when I have profession.

Of course, education is number one priority, and thanks to our school leadership we receive elementary knowledge in different professions. We keep 11 cows at our orphanage. Several employees take good care of the animals. Children living in the dorm have an opportunity to take care of animals as all the children like homemade milk. Girls and boys help to pasture the animals, feed them and clean the sheds. Milkmaids teach us farming skills; they show as and explain how to feed and milk cows. We already know that everywhere in the world farmers use milking machines which ease farmers’ work significantly. Using of milking machines improve hygiene a lot as well.

Children are thankful to school and to the people who help us. It will be easier for us to go back to our home villages with farming skills. The necessity of milking machines emerged some time ago but permanent lack of finance doesn’t allow purchasing of the equipment. Along with 11 cows our orphanage owns two sows, horse and elite saplings of strawberry which we planted on 0,5 hectare of our yard. This allows us to study different methods of farming.

Milking machines will allow us to avoid contact of milk and air while milking process, which is a sanitary standard. Automated milking will improve working conditions, and the products produced at the farm will improve nutrition of the orphans.
